Two shootings were reported within hours in Concord today including one this evening that left a man fighting for his life, police said. The day’s second shooting was reported outside the Wendy’s restaurant at 1551 Monument Blvd. at about 6 p.m., according to Concord police Lt. David Hughes.
Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound lying in the restaurant’s parking lot. Police said it appears he had gotten into a fight inside and when he left he was shot as the suspects fled. The man suffered life-threatening injuries, Hughes said. Contra Costa County fire Capt. Robert Marshall said he was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
A prior shooting left a victim with minor injuries, Huges said, however he did not specify the time or location of that shooting. He said that there is no indication the two shootings were related. Marshall said that police responded to reports of a victim bleeding from the head outside of the Bonfare Market at 2800 Grant St. at 3:25 p.m. However, assistance from the fire department was called off before any arrived, so Marshall could not confirm whether the victim had been shot.
