A male victim was injured in a shooting that was potentially gang-motivated on Wednesday evening in Watsonville, police said. At about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Riverside Drive near Union Street on a report of a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival in the area, officers learned that a friend had driven the victim to Watsonville Community Hospital for treatment. Police interviewed the victim at the hospital and he reported that he was walking in an alley between Riverside Drive and East Front Street when three suspects in a vehicle confronted him.

One of the suspects asked him if he was a gang member and then proceeded to shoot him once in his left leg, according to police. The suspects fled the alley in a brown four-door Honda Accord, police said. The victim’s injury is not considered life-threatening, police said.
