Florida State Trooper Lawrence Andrew Litzell Shot in Face on Traffic Stop, Suspect Killed in Gunbattle

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Lawrence Andrew Litzell is recovering at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital after being shot in the face during a routine traffic stop.

Trooper Lawrence Andrew Litzell pulled over a vehicle when the driver and a passenger exited the vehicle and began to flee.

Somourian Jamal Wingo pulled out a gun, turned and fired at Litzell, striking him in the face, according to the Gainesville Sun. Trooper Litzell was able to return fire, killing Wingo.

Police throughout Florida are still actively searching for the second suspect, whose name has not been released.

Trooper Litzell is in stable condition.
