Over one thousand police academy graduates took the oath to protect New York City with honor.
Overall crime is down by 32 percent compared to 2001. Shootings are down by the same amount. The number of murders in that time have plunged nearly 50 percent.
The New York Police Department was able to lower crime despite a struggling economy that cut manpower by 6,000 officers since 2001.
Since 9/11, a terror attack has not been successfully carried out against New York. Now these men and women will hit the streets helping to protect the city.
In July 781 new police officers graduated from the academy at a ceremony held at the at Barclays Center.
