Two men were wounded in separate shootings less than two hours apart on Christmas Day in Antioch that involved suspects who drove up in a vehicle and attacked each victim, police said. Antioch police were notified of the first assault at 1:44 p.m. today when a 19-year-old man was shot once in the upper chest while in the 4300 block of Rock Island Drive just west of Deer Valley Road.
The victim had been walking in the residential area on Rock Island accompanied by two friends when three male suspects drove up in a vehicle and confronted them, according to police Cpl. J. McMurry. The suspects got out of the vehicle and one of them demanded some jewelry being worn by the pedestrians and when the 19-year-old tried to prevent the robbery, the suspect produced a gun, police said.
The suspect then shot the man in the chest before he and the other male suspects drove out of the area, police said. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment, police said. Police were dispatched to the second shooting at about 3 p.m. in the 400 block of West 19th Street near the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds. A 26-year-old man had been walking on West 19th Street when some unknown suspects in a vehicle stopped next to him and someone shot the man once in the lower leg, police said.
The people in the vehicle then drove away and the victim was later taken to a hospital to be treated for his wound, police said. Police do not have descriptions of the vehicles used in either of the shootings or further details about the suspects, according to McMurry. The Antioch Police Department is asking for anyone with information about the two shootings to call the department’s non-emergency line at (925) 778-2441.
