Two burglary suspects were arrested in Vallejo on Monday after one of them ran into a home occupied by a mother and her three children while fleeing from authorities, police said. Monte Hernderson, 20, and Damien Hill Crowder, 22, both of Vallejo, were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary, Vallejo police said.
Police responded to the 1400 block of Beach Street at 10:53 a.m. Monday after someone called police to report hearing a loud bang coming from a home and then seeing two men fleeing, police said. Officers arrived and ran after the suspects, one of whom was carrying a handgun, according to police. Deputies from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist police, and one of the suspects was caught in the 300 block of Benicia Road nearby, police said. Vallejo police then brought in a K-9 unit, and the California Highway Patrol furnished an air unit to aid in the search for the second suspect, police said.
Authorities saw the suspect trying to leave a house in the 300 block of Wallace Avenue. When they went to the house, they found a mother and her children inside, police said. The suspect then appeared but refused to be taken into custody, and officers used tools including the police dog to finally make the arrest, police said. One of the officers suffered minor injuries during the incident and was treated and released, according to police. Investigators recovered property taken in the burglary and a stolen handgun from a yard that the second suspect had run to prior to his arrest, police said.
