Dmitriy Kanarikov threw his 3-year-old son Kirill off the roof of the 52-story building following some sort of custody dispute with the child’s mother. He then jumped off the same roof. Both were found on the lower rooftops of two separate nearby buildings.
Kanarikov was pronounced dead at the scene, and his son was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities say the boy’s mother had custody of the child and Kanarikov had visiting rights. They say he was supposed to hand the boy over to the mother at a police precinct Sunday afternoon.
Police say Kanarikov was a Brooklyn resident and lived in his home in Mill Basin. News 12 spoke to a neighbor of his who says the family moved in about six months ago. The neighbor described them as quiet, but seemingly nice, and was shocked to hear what happened.
