A Gilroy man registered as a sex offender was arrested last week during a sex offender compliance sweep in Santa Clara County, sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday. Investigators determined during a focused sex offender sweep that registered sex offender Christopher Soto, 34, illegally made contact with a minor child. Soto, who is on parole, was arrested on Friday, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Of the 33 registered sex offenders who law enforcement officials checked in on during the compliance sweep, Soto is the only one who was arrested, sheriff’s deputies said. Members of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office SAFE (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement) Task Force, members of the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, San Jose Parole and the U.S. Marshals Service checked registered sex offenders for compliance with California’s sex offender registration laws.
The task force regularly conducts sweeps throughout the county to ensure the public’s safety. Funding for the task force is provided by the California Emergency Management Agency and is active in 12 Northern California counties, according to the sheriff’s office. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious behavior by sex offenders to the SAFE task force at (408) 808-4300 or [email protected]
