A thief stole a woman’s purse containing cash, her car keys and cellphone in Petaluma Sunday night, a police lieutenant said. The woman was walking downtown behind the Petaluma Museum at B and Fourth streets around 9:15 p.m. when a Hispanic man approached her from behind, Lt. Tim Lyons said. The man kicked her, stole her purse and ran toward Petaluma Boulevard North, Lt. Tim Lyons said. The suspect is approximately 30 years old and 5 feet 4 inches. He was wearing gray sweat pants with blue bands around both legs, Lyons said. Lyons said there has been an increase in property crimes in downtown Petaluma during this holiday season, and pedestrians should be aware of their surroundings and walk in well-lit areas at night.
