Man walking in Natividad Creek Park in Salinas robbed at gunpoint for his cell phone

A 29-year-old man taking a walk in Natividad Creek Park in Salinas on Tuesday morning was robbed of his cellphone by a man who emerged from some bushes and pointed a gun at him, police said. Salinas police got a call at 11:12 a.m. from the victim, who said he had been walking on a trail north of Freedom Parkway in the park when a man came out of some bushes, police said.

The man, who was wearing a red bandana, aimed a handgun at the victim and robbed him of his cellphone, police said. The suspect then fled down a trail heading east toward East Boronda Road. The gunman was described as Hispanic, about 20 years old, roughly 5 feet 8 inches tall and wearing a light green camouflage jacket and tan pants.
