Police are looking for an armed man who robbed a Salinas gas station early Sunday morning. The robber approached the window at the Shell gas station at 458 E. Market St. at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, police said. He said he needed coffee, and the female clerk allowed him inside the store, according to police. Once inside, the suspect picked up an 18-pack of Budweiser beer and then pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded that she give him money, police said.
After receiving cash, the suspect fled with the beer and got into the front passenger seat of a waiting Ford Econoline van, according to police. The van was last seen heading north on Kern Street. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man about 20 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 230 pounds, police said.
