A 19-year-old man was shot in the arm after what appears to have been a gang-related fight in Salinas early Sunday morning, police said. Officers responded to the first block of St. Michael Way at about 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a man had been shot at a party in the 200 block of North Madeira Avenue, police said. The victim told officers he was in the garage of a home on North Madeira Avenue when four to five males showed up at the party uninvited, approached him and his friends and started a fight, according to police.
After the fight, the victim followed the suspects to their car nearby and one of the suspects fired three shots at him, hitting him once in the right arm, police said. The suspects then got into a white Acura and fled, according to police. The victim told police that the suspect who fired the shots was yelling gang slogans while shooting at him, police said. His injury was not life-threatening.
The victim described two of the suspects to officers. The first was described as a heavyset Hispanic male with tattoos on his neck, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans. The other suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds.
