San Antonio police report that Officer Robert Deckard responded to a report of a robbery and came under gunfire by the suspected robbers. The suspects then fled in a car and Officer Deckard and pursued them. During the chase, the suspects continued shooting at him and one bullet went the his windshield striking him in the head, lodging in his brain and causing him to crash his patrol car.
Other officers and sheriff’s deputies continued chasing the suspects until they were able to arrest them. Suspects Shawn Puente, 32, and 28-year-old Genevive Ramos were transported to the Wilson County Jail just after 8 a.m., Anthony Flores with the Texas Department of Public Safety said. They’re being held in connection with the two shooting incidents.
Charges are still pending, however.
Chief McManus said the suspects are believed to be behind a string of 15 robberies that occurred over the weekend.
