Authorities are searching the ocean and beach areas between Capitola and Aptos for a missing 17-year-old boy whose bicycle was found near there Thursday night, a spokesman for the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said today. Authorities located an abandoned bicycle at about 10 p.m. Thursday off of Center Avenue and Seacliff Drive, several blocks north of Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, and Nate Phillip’s family members today confirmed that the bike was his, sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Kennedy said.
Sheriff’s deputies are flying a plane over the ocean and officers from the California Department of Parks and Recreation are in boats off of Seacliff State Beach looking for Nate, who was reported missing on Monday night, Kennedy said. The area of the search stretches from New Brighton Beach south to Seacliff State Beach, Kennedy said. Nate is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with blonde hair and blue eyes, Kennedy said.
