A suspect is in custody this morning after slamming into a police car and then attempting to flee in San Jose, police said. At about 5:45 a.m., police responded to an officer-involved collision at the intersection of West San Carlos Street and South Almaden Boulevard.
According to police, the officer was stopped at a red light when the driver rear-ended his vehicle at a high rate of speed. The driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by a security guard from a nearby business, police said. San Jose police arrived shortly afterward and took the driver into custody. The officer and suspect driver both sustained moderate injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Both were transported to a hospital, according to police. The intersection of West San Carlos and South Almaden Boulevard was shut down during the investigation but is expected to reopen between 8 and 9 a.m., police said. Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The suspect’s identity was also not immediately being released by police. Ha
