Two victims in their 20s were injured in a shooting in Watsonville on Monday evening, police said. Shortly after 6:45 p.m., police responded to a report of two victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the 100 block of Arthur Road, near Crescent Drive. Officers found the two victims suffering gunshot wounds to their legs.
One victim was shot in the foot while the other was shot in the lower leg, police said. Based on the initial investigation, police said it appears an altercation escalated between the victims and at least one suspect. According to police, a suspect produced a handgun and fired several times at the victims, striking both victims once in their lower extremities. Before police arrived at the scene, the suspects had fled east on Arthur Road, officers said.
Police conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate any suspects in connection with the shooting. Both victims were uncooperative with the investigation and provided little information about the shooting. Neither victim gave officers a description of the suspects, according to police. Both victims were transported via ambulance to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said. Officers said the shooting is being investigated as gang-related.
