Santa Rosa police arrested a driver for felony hit-and-run and DUI after a crash in west Santa Rosa early this morning. Officer Jeff Woods pursued a white Chevrolet truck that was driving recklessly in the area of Cleveland and Jennings avenues in west Santa Rosa around 2 a.m., Sgt. Brad Connors said. The truck struck two parked cars on Jennings Avenue, drove south on Cleveland Avenue then west on West Ninth Street where it ran a red light and collided with a Ford Expedition at Dutton Avenue, Connors said.
The collision injured James Gonnella, 42, of Santa Rosa, who was treated at a hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries to his head and face, Connors said. The driver of the truck, identified as Cesar Rodriguez, 22, of Santa Rosa, fled after the collision but was caught by Woods a short distance away, Connors said. He was treated for minor injuries at a hospital before he was booked in the Sonoma County jail for felony DUI, felony evasion of a police officer, felony hit-and-run and driving without a license in connection with the injury crash, Connors said. Rodriguez also was booked on misdemeanor charges of hit-and-run, DUI and driving without a license in connection with the collision with the parked cars, Connors said.
