San Jose Police arrest murder suspect in Pedro Cortez homicide

Police announced today an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting in East San Jose last weekend. The suspect, whose name is not yet being released, was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday for the case of 18-year-old Pedro Cortez, who was shot in the 800 block of Peter Pan Avenue near Capitol Park shortly after 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, police said. Cortez, a San Jose resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The homicide was San Jose’s 43rd so far in 2013, according to police Sgt. Heather Randol. The case remains under investigation.
