Two men were hospitalized after a police pursuit of a vehicle that fled a traffic stop in Santa Rosa on Wednesday night, police said today. At about 10:15 p.m., an officer tried to stop a 2010 Chrysler 300 sedan for a vehicle code violation near Northcoast Street, police said. The Chrysler fled east on West Steele Lane and ran multiple red lights and stop signs with the officer in pursuit, according to police.
As the vehicle reached West Steele Lane and Marlow Road, the driver failed to negotiate a left turn and struck a traffic signal, curb and fence at the southwest corner of the intersection, police said. The vehicle became engulfed in flames and officers pulled the driver away from the car while a passenger was able to get out himself.
The driver, identified as Eduardo Ramos Caballero, 19, and passenger, Dante Savatori, 20, were both taken to a hospital for injuries to their lower extremities, police said. The pair, both Santa Rosa residents, refused to cooperate with the investigation into the pursuit. Any possible charges related to the case will be forwarded to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office for review, police said.
