Police are attempting to identify a suspect who robbed a laundromat in Watsonville Monday night. At about 9:40 p.m., Watsonville police responded to the 500 block of East Lake Avenue regarding a robbery that had just occurred at Granny’s Laundromat. When officers arrived at the scene they spoke with an employee at the laundromat. She told officers that an unknown male suspect had robbed the business.
Based on the initial investigation, police determined that the suspect came into the laundromat, told the employee that he had a gun and then demanded cash. Police said the employee did not see the suspect’s gun. Nevertheless, she complied with the suspect’s demands out of fear and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash from the business.
The suspect took the money and fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to police. Once the suspect left the laundromat, the employee called police for assistance. The suspect was described as being about 6 feet tall with a medium build.
He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket and loose fitting pants at the time of the robbery, police said. Additional officers searched the area and alerted other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect. As of this morning, the suspect has not been located, police said.
