A 25-year-old man was injured in a shooting in Salinas late Monday night, according to police. At about 10:15 p.m. the victim was standing at the corner of Pacheco Street and Ramona Avenue talking to an acquaintance in a nearby vehicle when two males drove up in a white sedan, police said. The passenger of the sedan got out and fired several shots at the victim.

At least one round struck the victim in his lower torso, according to police. Officers said the suspect then got back inside the vehicle and the vehicle headed west on Pacheco Street. The victim was flown to a Bay Area hospital for treatment and his condition has not yet been released.

According to police, the suspect was described as a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black baseball cap. Police said that although the victim did not appear to be involved in gang activity, the shooting may have been gang-motivated.
