A 20-year-old man called Salinas police this morning to report that he had been shot in the back while walking on a residential street several blocks east of U.S. Highway 101, a police commander said. Salinas police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Sucre Court at 1:22 a.m. today after they received the man’s 911 call, Salinas police Cmdr. Dave Crabill said.
Officers found the victim lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound at the intersection of Perez and Prado streets, according to Crabill. The victim told officers he was shot while walking in the area but did not completely cooperate with the investigation, the commander said. The man was flown to a hospital where he was being treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, Crabill said. The shooting is considered gang-related, police said.
