Police identified the Santa Rosa high school teacher who was stabbed by a student with a mechanical pencil on Wednesday as 33-year-old Tyler Ahlborn. Ahlborn was stabbed in the head, neck and arm during a lunch break around 12:50 p.m. by a 16-year-old student in a classroom at Midrose High School, alternative school on the campus of Elsie Allen High School in, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Dave Linscomb said. He was treated and released from Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Midrose High School serves students in grades 9-12 who want to complete high school in a smaller, more personal setting, according to its website. The student was arrested after the stabbing at a relative’s house on Silver Spur Drive, and was booked into juvenile hall for assault with a deadly weapon, Linscomb said. The motive for the attack is unclear, he said. “Students in the room said it just happened. There was no big confrontation,” Linscomb said this morning.
Another student in the room tried to stop the attack, and Ahlborn was able to escape and call for help, Linscomb said. The school was locked down because of the incident until 2:45 p.m. Officials from the school and the Santa Rosa City Schools district have not returned phone calls this morning.
