San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

On November 19, 2013, at approximately 12:25 pm a 40-year old San Carlos resident made his way to the Home Depot Parking Lot to purchase a number of gift cards at a discounted rate, as he had seen advertised on Craig’s List. Once on scene, the victim was met by two Hispanic male adults in their 30’s who drove up in a 4-door silver colored Lexus sedan (which was later determined to be a stolen vehicle, reported out of San Francisco). The two suspects exited the vehicle and demanded the victim’s money. When the victim refused, he was struck numerous times and the cash was forcibly taken from him. The suspects then fled the area and were last seen driving eastbound on Brittan Avenue towards Highway 101.

Be wary of online purchases that sound too good to be true and if the purchase involves meeting face to face consider setting the location of the meet in the vicinity of your local law enforcement agency.
