Fairfield police said an 18-year-old man was shot this afternoon at a makeshift memorial in a parking lot. Police received reports around 12:30 p.m. about gunshots on El Verano Court where they found evidence of a crime scene but no victims, Lt. Randy Boggs said. While police were investigating, an 18-year-old Fairfield man who claimed he was shot while visiting the memorial arrived at the NorthBay Medical Center, Boggs said.
The wounded teen said someone who was already at the memorial returned the gunfire toward the first shooter, Boggs said. The shooting victim suffered a superficial wound on his shin and would not provide any more information, Boggs said. Police recovered bullet casings at the memorial that indicated multiple shooters were involved in the incident, Boggs said. Bullets struck a nearby residence, but no other victims were located, Boggs said.
