Two men were arrested Monday in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old Salinas man found shot to death Saturday in a farming area south of Salinas, according to Monterey County sheriff’s deputies. Sheriff’s deputies, assisted by the Salinas Police Department, took Fredi Gomez Carranza, 35, into custody on suspicion of the murder of Sergio Vegas Rodriguez, of Salinas, according to the sheriff’s office. Carranza’s address is listed as 18 Hartnell Road in a rural section of unincorporated Monterey County south of Salinas where deputies found Rodriguez’s body Saturday, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies and police also arrested Feliciano Ramirez Gomez, 27, of Salinas, Monday on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact in Rodriguez’s murder, sheriff’s officials said.The sheriff’s office and the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to the home at 4:05 p.m. Saturday in response to a 911 call about a shooting and discovered the victim lying in a dirt driveway and dead from a gunshot wound, sheriff’s officials said. Based on an investigation, authorities learned that there had been a private party at the home at the time of the shooting but that Rodriguez was not a member of the party, according to sheriff’s officials.
