Police have identified the suspect and the victim in a fatal shooting that took place in the streets of San Jose early Sunday morning, according to a San Jose police spokeswoman. The victim, identified as Jason Ford, 37, of San Jose, was fatally shot at about 4:25 a.m. at the intersection of Morrison Avenue and West San Fernando Street, San Jose police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol said.
As officers responded to the scene, Ford’s relatives drove him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 a.m., Randol said. At about 5:15 a.m., police identified 28-year-old San Jose resident John Rios as a suspect in connection with the homicide and took him into custody, Randol said. The suspect was known to the victim, but the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said. The death was San Jose’s 39th homicide of 2013, Randol said.
