A knife-wielding man wearing a black mask and black clothes on Thursday held up a 7-Eleven store in Salinas, the third armed robbery involving a masked man dressed in black in the city since Wednesday. Salinas police were called to the store at 1305 N. Main St. at 7:34 p.m. Thursday where an employee said a male walked in wearing all black clothing, a black mask and gloves, according to police Cmdr. Henry Gomez.
The man put a knife to the employee’s neck and demanded all of the money from the cash register, Gomez said. The employee complied and the robber, described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, grabbed the cash and fled on foot, Gomez said. The suspect’s disguise and clothing worn during the robbery are similar to those used by a man who wielded a gun while holding up two fast food places about 20 minutes apart in Salinas on Wednesday.
Police responded at 9:29 a.m. Wednesday to a Taco Bell eatery at 6 Maple St. where a man wearing a black skull mask, black clothing and gloves pointed a gun at workers and escaped on foot with cash, police said. At 9:47 a.m., police were called to a Carl’s Jr. at 400 E. Market St. and employees reported that a gunman in a black skull mask with dark sunglasses and wearing black clothing and gloves brandished a handgun and ordered employees and customers to the ground, police said. The suspect received an undetermined amount of cash and then fled on foot, police said.
