Officers shot an aggressive dog after two off-leash dogs bit four people near the Larkspur-Bellflower Trail in Antioch on Wednesday night, police said. At about 8:45 p.m., the two loose dogs bit a man who was walking his two dogs on the trail near the 2700 block of Larkspur Drive. The dogs also bit both of his dogs, according to police The loose dogs then bit three neighbors who had heard noise outside and went to see what was causing the commotion, police said.
Police responded to the scene and found both dogs in the vicinity. When the dogs charged at the officers, the officers discharged their weapons, killing one of the dogs and scaring the other off, police said. The four injured adults were either treated at the scene of the attack or transported to area hospitals. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to police. Animal Control officers captured the second aggressive dog without incident when it returned to the scene a short time later. Police have not released the breed of the loose dogs or the name of their owner.
