A woman who died after being hit by a car in San Jose early Monday has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as 26-year-old Cassandra Rose Buck, of Los Angeles. San Jose police responded to a call at 2:33 a.m. about a traffic collision in the 1200 block of Weibel Way, near Leigh Avenue, and saw that a car had struck a woman and the garage door of a home.

The woman, later identified as Buck, was pronounced dead at the scene, police spokesman Office Albert Morales said. The driver of the car, Monica Johnson, 27, of Campbell, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, Morales said. Buck’s death marked the 34th traffic fatality of the year in San Jose, he said.

  • DUIs are always life altering events. When there is something as tragic as a death, resulting from a DUI, the pain is that much worse. I hope Buck’s family is able to recover from this tragedy.
