Deputies arrested a man who stabbed his elderly father about 30 times in the face, neck and arm with a kitchen knife at a residence in unincorporated Monterey County on Monday evening, according to sheriff’s deputies. Jonathan Brady, 51, of Salinas, was arrested for attempted murder when deputies responded to a report of a stabbing in the 3300 block of Trevis Way near Carmel-by-the-Sea, shortly after 7 p.m., deputies said.
The suspect’s mother was home at the time of the stabbing, deputies said. She saw her son stabbing his elderly father in the neck, face and arm with a large kitchen knife and called 911, deputies said. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home within minutes of receiving the call and took the suspect into custody. Sheriff’s deputies rendered first aid to the victim until medical personnel arrived at the residence. The victim was then transported to a hospital, where he was treated for about 30 lacerations. The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation.
