A 43-year-old man died Monday from multiple wounds he suffered in a gang-related shooting about a mile east of U.S. Highway 101 in Salinas, police said today. Salinas police dispatched to 1146 E. Laurel Drive at 11:42 a.m. found Sergio Rodriguez suffering from gunshot wounds and had him transported to a hospital, where he died, police Cmdr. Vincent Maioraina said.
Witnesses reported seeing a man in his early 20s run away from the shooting scene and enter the passenger seat of a red car that sped away, Maioraina said. The murder was the 21st homicide so far this year in Salinas and is under investigation as gang-related, Maioraina said.
