An Oakland man who was arrested Thursday for burglarizing a home in San Leandro is scheduled to appear in court Monday, police said. Officers responded to a report of the sound of breaking glass at a home in the 900 block of Sybil Avenue around 11 a.m. Thursday, according to police. The caller then shortly thereafter believed his home was being burglarized, police said. Upon arriving, officers saw a man running from the home’s yard carrying a pillowcase over his shoulder. It appeared to be weighted down with stolen items, police said.
The suspect, a 19-year-old man, failed to stop and ran away. Additional officers and a K-9 unit assisted in a search and apprehended the man, police said. The suspect, whose name is being withheld due to the ongoing investigation, was on probation for burglary and grand theft at the time of the arrest, police said. He suffered minor injuries in the pursuit and was treated at a hospital before being brought to jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
