A 35-year-old man was shot and killed in a possibly gang-related attack in Salinas on Friday, according to police. Police said officers were called to the area of Bellhaven Street and Second Avenue on reports of shots fired around 2:35 p.m. Friday. Officers arriving on the scene found the victim, identified as Jaime Donato Rubio, slumped over the steering wheel of his car, police said.

He died at the scene. Police said witnesses reported seeing the driver of a purple Honda or Nissan pull up alongside of Rubio’s parked car, get out open fire. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man who is roughly 30 years old with short hair and a “gang appearance” wearing either blue or black clothing, police said.
