The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has released photos taken from surveillance video of an armed robbery suspect at the Walmart in American Canyon last month. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the store around 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 23 after a man loaded a shopping cart inside the store with more than $200 in items and “returned” them for a gift card, sheriff’s Capt. Tracey Stuart said.

Store security watched the suspect load the cart because he appeared suspicious, and they allowed him to get the gift card from customer service so they would have a good case against him, Stuart said. The man used an identification that was not his when he got the gift card, she said.

Two store security officers then stopped the man when he left the store and as they escorted him back inside, the man pulled a silver-colored pistol from his waistband and pointed it at them, Stuart said. The man then fled in a dark gray 1980s Honda Civic, Stuart said. The suspect is 6 feet tall and weighs about 190 pounds with an athletic build. He is bald and has brown eyes, Stuart said.
