Santa Rosa police arrested a Norteno gang member Wednesday afternoon in connection with an assault in front of a downtown nightclub in August, a police sergeant said. Cesar Castellanos, 30, of Santa Rosa, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Stony Point Road and Sebastopol Road on outstanding arrest warrants, Sgt. Dave Linscomb said.
Linscomb said Castellanos is a known Norteno gang member who was wanted for an assault in front of Christy’s on the Square nightclub in Courthouse Square in August. Investigators believe the assault was retaliation against the victim, a 41-year-old man, for his involvement in a gang-related court case several years ago, Linscomb said. In that case, a teenage girl was shot in the back by Norteno gang members who were shooting at a car occupied by rival gang members near Stony Point Road and West Third Street, Linscomb said.
The defendants in that case were convicted, Linscomb said. At the time of his arrest Wednesday, Castellanos was out of custody on bail after being arrested in connection with an attempted murder last December. In that case, according to Linscomb, someone shot at a vehicle on Hearn Avenue that was occupied by other gang members after an altercation near The Ticket nightclub in Santa Rosa. Castellanos has been booked into Sonoma County Jail for fighting in a public place, making threats to terrorize, threatening a witness and gang enhancements, Linscomb said.
