Upton County Deputy Sheriff Billy “Bubba” Kennedy Shot and Killed in Shootout at Texas Convenience Store

On October 2, 2014 at about 11:15 p.m. Upton County Deputy Sheriff Billy “Bubba” Kennedy responded to a call at the Stripes Convenience Store in McCamey. He encountered an armed man and a shootout ensued. Deputy Kennedy was killed but was able to return fire and wound his killer. The the suspect is in the hospital facing capitol murder charges.

The Texas Rangers are in charge of investigating the crime.
