By Bay City News Service A man sustained major stab wounds during a fight near an elementary school in unincorporated Sonoma County Wednesday afternoon, according to sheriff’s deputies. At about 1:50 p.m., deputies received numerous 911 calls reporting that a man covered with blood was seen walking in the streets near Willowside Elementary School, just west of Santa Rosa.
Deputies located the victim near the intersection of Hall and Willowside roads. The victim had been stabbed several times with an unknown large cutting instrument, according to sheriff’s deputies. The victim sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
He is expected to survive, deputies said. According to deputies, the schools in the area were placed on lockdown and a search for the suspect began. Deputies determined that the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle and lifted the lockdown. The stabbing remains under investigation.
