A woman shot and wounded by a Salinas police officer last week during a robbery of customers at a self-serve laundry business was released from a hospital Thursday into police custody, a police commander said. Charlene Hale, 44, of Salinas, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery and brandishing a weapon, and booked into the Monterey County Jail after leaving the hospital, police Cmdr. Vince Maiorana said.

Hale is suspected of brandishing a knife to rob patrons of the City Suds Laundromat at 101 Pajaro St. at East Market Street in Salinas on Sept. 19, Maiorana said. When police arrived at the business, Hale ignored commands from an officer, reached for the knife and was shot and wounded by the officer, Maiorana said. Police took Hale into custody for booking at the jail at about 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Maiorana said.
