Police are still trying to locate a man who allegedly assaulted and seriously injured a Safeway store manager in San Leandro on Monday. Police said the attack occurred around 10:55 a.m. at the Safeway at 555 Bancroft Ave. A man entered the store, approached the manager and suddenly punched him, knocking him to the ground, according to police. The suspect then fled and remains at large, police said today.
The manager, who is in his early 50s, was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he remained this morning in serious condition, San Leandro police Lt. Randall Brandt said. Police said they don’t know what motivated the attack and an investigation is ongoing. “It’s such a mystery right now,” Brandt said.
