Two Watsonville men were arrested Friday on weapons charges after a traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit, police said. Police conducted a traffic stop on a silver sedan shortly before 10 p.m. on West Beach Street at Harvest Drive due to several vehicle code violations, according to Sgt. Mike McKinley.

One passenger, 18-year-old Felipe Jimenez-Salas, jumped out of the sedan and allegedly tried to flee on foot. He was caught and arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest. The other occupants of the vehicle were detained, McKinley said. A search of the vehicle located a loaded semi-automatic pistol in the passenger compartment.

Police arrested a second passenger, 20-year-old Patrick Diaz, on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a stolen loaded and concealed firearm, parole violation and gang enhancements. The driver and three other passengers were cited and released for alcohol violations.
