Santa Rosa police arrested a driver for alleged DUI and evading police after a vehicle pursuit in the downtown area early Friday morning, a police sergeant said. Officer Kenneth Ferrigno pursued a Dodge Neon around 12:30 a.m. after it sped past him on 9th Street and drove through a stop sign and red light in the area of A Street and 7th Street, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said. The Dodge accelerated on southbound Mendocino Avenue and eastbound 4th Street as Ferrigno gave chase in his patrol car.

After driving through more stop signs, the Dodge eventually stopped in a driveway in the 1900 block of Sonoma Avenue and the driver, identified as Michael Anthony Barnes, 20, of Santa Rosa, got out of the Dodge and jumped over a fence, Banayat said. Additional officers arrived and found Barnes on the side of a house, Banayat said. Barnes resisted arrest but was handcuffed and arrested for evading police, DUI, violating probation and resisting arrest, Banayat said.
