On September 20, 2013, the San Jose Police Department arrested Suspect Danny Coleman for murder and reclassified the fatal collision that occurred on September 2, 2013 as the City’s 37th and 38th homicide. On September 2, 2013 at approximately 3:18 AM, Coleman collided into Ms. Zavala’s vehicle killing both Ms. Zavala and her passenger, Ms. Cristina De Leon.

Coleman fled the scene and evaded capture that morning. Homicide Unit Commander Lt. Michael Kihmm stated, “After an extensive investigation, we were able to identify the driver of the vehicle that killed the two innocent victims on their way to work. The apprehension efforts were complicated and took a while but the suspect was finally arrested in Union City by members of the San Jose Police Department Covert Response Unit (CRU).”

Although this was a traffic collision, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office filed murder charges against Danny Coleman for the deaths of these two women. The circumstances surrounding these charges cannot be disclosed as the investigation is on-going.
