Armed Suspect Attempts To Rob Salinas Ice Cream Vendor

A teen suspect armed with a knife attempted to rob an ice cream vendor in Salinas on Thursday evening, according to police. Salinas police said the vendor was making a sale to a customer in the 1100 block of Rider Avenue at about 5:10 p.m. Thursday when a male suspect approached. The suspect grabbed the vendor from behind, held a knife to her and demanded all of her money, according to police. The victim broke away and ran into a nearby house, police said. The suspect started to flee the scene on his bicycle, then fell and dropped his knife. He got back onto his bike and fled north on Rider Avenue and then turned right onto Del Monte Avenue, police said. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who is about 17 years old with a medium build and a light mustache. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a white T-shirt, jeans and was riding a green mountain bike at the time of the attempted robbery, police said
