Santa Cruz police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck who drove away after dropping off a stabbing victim at a hospital emergency room Monday, a police spokesman said. The 31-year-old male stabbing victim, who has an extensive history of police contact, underwent surgery Monday at Dominican Hospital, Deputy Police Chief Steve Clark said. At 3:55 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the area of San Lorenzo Boulevard and Riverside Avenue after an off-duty firefighter reported seeing an injured person being placed into a vehicle, Clark said.
Police soon received a call from the emergency medical staff at Dominican Hospital about a stabbing victim dropped off by the driver of a mid-2000s Dodge Quad Cab pickup truck, Clark said. Detectives are looking for that truck and a second truck, described as a small Ford sport utility vehicle, Clark said. The motive and circumstances of the stabbing are still being investigated, Clark said.
