A man and woman were arrested in Petaluma after they were allegedly found with stolen mail, stolen checks and illegal drugs, according to police. Around 6 p.m. Friday, police detained a man after he tried to open a bank account at a Wells Fargo in Petaluma using someone else’s identification, police said. Police said the man, identified as 27-year-old transient Ryan Anthony Cardenas, was found with several stolen checks that had been altered, 14 grams of methamphetamine and had two warrants for his arrest.
Officers then searched the room where Cardenas had been staying at the Petaluma Motel 6 at 1368 N. McDowell Blvd. and spoke with another suspect, identified as 32-year-old Nicole Silveira, who is also a transient. Police said officers found “a large amount of suspected stolen mail,” more drugs and drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and conspiracy and taken to county jail.
