Solano County sheriff’s deputies with help from Vacaville police arrested an Isleton man Tuesday night on suspicion of carjacking and attempted armed robbery. Brian Lemke, 34, is suspected of stealing a 2003 white Chevrolet Tahoe at gunpoint from an elderly couple in Walnut Grove in the Sacramento Delta around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The couple was not injured but was left stranded in the Sacramento Delta, Solano County sheriff’s Deputy Daryl Snedeker said. Shortly after the carjacking, Suisun City police were informed of an attempted armed robbery at the AMPM convenience store at 299 Marina Blvd. near state Highway 12 in Suisun City. The suspect pointed a shotgun at the store clerk and tried to fire three shots but the gun did not fire, Snedeker said.

The suspect then fled in a vehicle. Suisun City police determined the suspect’s vehicle was the one that was stolen earlier Tuesday in the Delta and issued a countywide lookout for the suspect, Snedeker said. Sheriff’s Deputy Jaime Garcia saw the Tahoe traveling east on Interstate Highway 80 near the Lagoon Valley off-ramp around 10 p.m., Snedeker said. Garcia followed the Tahoe when it exited the highway at Davis Street in Vacaville and continued to Bella Vista Road, Snedeker said.

The Tahoe then turned, drove through a parking lot and back onto Bella Vista Road toward Davis Street, Snedeker said. Additional sheriff’s deputies and Vacaville police arrived made a high-risk traffic stop at the intersection of Bella Vista Drive and Davis Street, Snedeker said. Lemke, the driver of the Tahoe, was arrested without incident. Deputies recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and a Marlin .357 Magnum lever action rifle in the Tahoe, Snedeker said.

The weapons were turned over to Suisun City police. Lemke was booked in the Solano County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, criminal threats, carjacking, possession of stolen property, use of a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a weapon. He is being held under no bail. Sheriff’s deputies picked up the carjacking victims in Isleton and drove them to their vehicle in Vacaville, Snedeker said.
