A Christchurch police dog shot dead while on duty has been awarded an international honor dubbed the ”animals’ George Cross”.
German shepherd “Gage” was killed during a drug raid in Christchurch.
His handler, Senior Constable Bruce Lamb, was emotional today during the ceremony commemorating his fallen canine partner.
Constable Bruce Lamb gives thanks for honoring Gage, but saved his final thanks for the dog. ”Without him I simply wouldn’t be here.”
Police were conducting a routine drug raid when Constable Lamb was shot in the jaw by the suspect.
K-9 “Gage” jumped across Constable Lamb to engage with the suspect and was fatally shot by the suspect.
