Draper Police Sergeant Derek Johnson Shot and Killed in Ambush

Draper Police Sergeant Derek Johnson shot and killed in ambush while on patrol yesterday. On September 1, 2013, he was driving his patrol vehicle when he came under gunfire and was shot while still in his vehicle. He was able to make an unintelligible radio call before he crashed into a tree.
Shortly after police radio communications heard his call, they began receiving 911 calls from residents reporting hearing gunfire.
Responding officers found Sergeant Johnson in his patrol vehicle and a man and woman shot, laying on the street. Police report that the killer shot Sergeant Johnson, then shot the woman and then shot himself.
