A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a car from a business and attempting to flee from police Saturday evening in Antioch, police said. At about 6:40 p.m., an officer was parked on West Ninth Street near A Street when he was nearly struck by a box truck similar to a moving truck, according to police.

At just about the same time, officers received a report that a box truck was speeding on West Ninth Street. The officer followed the truck and attempted to stop it, police said. The truck pulled over and as the officer got out of his patrol car, the truck drove at him and almost struck him, police said. Police pursued the truck on A Street until the driver, 45-year-old Eric Lehtinen, got out near A and Drake streets and fled on foot. He was apprehended shortly after, according to police.

Police dispatch advised the officers that a burglary alarm at a business had sounded where the truck was registered. Officers found that the business, Ordaz Cultured Marble and Onyx Inc., located at 2601 W. 10th St., had been broken into and the truck had been stolen, police said. Lehtinen was arrested on multiple unspecified charges and booked into the Martinez jail.
